3 Ways to Get More Business Leads From Your Website Through High-Quality SEO

As an SEO consultant and trainer, my job is to educate my clients on how search engine optimization works, and how they can use it to help them get more and better leads for their businesses. Often times, when it comes to SEO, there’s this expectation that you’ll be able to plug in some general keywords and then sit back and watch the leads pour in. Unfortunately, SEO doesn’t work quite like that these days.

SEO isn’t a magic solution that’s going to fix everything and bring traffic in; it’s something you must do in addition to all of your other marketing efforts. Getting people to your website through SEO is great, but there has to be more to your plan. You need to be sure that you are attracting the right kind of people to your site, and then have a plan in place to convert them to leads once they arrive.

Here are three of my favorite tips for using high-quality SEO to help you get more business leads from your website:

  1. Figure out what keywords your customers use –  It’s important to really, truly determine what the keywords are that people use to find your products and services. One of the biggest things I see is people using very general words that don’t show that there is any kind of buying intent. General terms like “weight loss,” for example, could be a do-it-yourselfer, a college student writing a paper, or someone that just wants free information. What you want to find are the keywords that show that they are looking to hire someone. Figuring that out should be your first priority when it comes to generating more leads through SEO. Instead of general keywords like “weight loss,” think more along the lines of “weight loss coach in Atlanta,” or “weight loss online training package.”
  2. Execute – I’m all about execution! All the keyword research in the world won’t do you one bit of good if you never execute. Keep in mind though, that trying to SEO an entire site all at once can leave you frustrated and burned out. Start simple – take one keyword around some kind of buying intent, around the products or services or solutions or information you offer, and optimize one page or blog post. Put the keyword in the title tag, put it in the heading, use it once or twice in your copy and call it a day. Don’t overthink things or you’ll find yourself caught up in the dreaded (but all too common) paralysis by analysis. The key to getting more and better leads through SEO is really quite simple – just get started.
  3. Be salesy – Often times people are so afraid of being too salesy on their website that they actually don’t get salesy enough. Don’t let your keyword research and optimization efforts go to waste by not telling visitors exactly what to do once they arrive on your site. Your site copy should be very direct about what you do, who you work with, and why people should hire you today. Inviting people to take that next step with you isn’t being too salesy, in fact it’s absolutely essential if you want to generate more leads using your site.

Are you ready to get more business leads through SEO?

Go ahead and begin with these three steps; you just might find that using high-quality SEO to get more and better leads is really not as hard as you thought it would be!
